It is estimated that nearly 23.6 million people in America suffer with some form of diabetes. Diabetes is known as one of the leading causes of disability and death in the USA. It is a lifelong condition and can be very serious if not properly treated, causing damage to your nerves, kidneys and even your eyes. Some people have even had to have limbs surgically removed as a result of complications from high blood sugar from their diabetes.
Diabetes is misdiagnosed often as people do not understand the condition and are not aware that they may have it. This is a disease that is causes your body to not process sugar into energy from the foods that you eat which causes the blood sugar levels to be too high. Since your body cannot properly process the sugar, some of it leaves your body by turning to urine sugar and the rest remains in your bloodstream, which causes severe problems over time. Your body produces insulin which helps to control the blood sugar in your body and if you suffer with diabetes, your body will either produces too much or too little insulin or your body doesn’t know how to use the insulin in the right way.
There are 3 types of Diabetes with Type 1 and Type 2 being the most common. Type 1 is when a person suffers with diabetes due to it being passed on genetically. Both children and adults can have this type of diabetes. Your body will not produce enough insulin and in some cases none at all. Not watching your diet can greatly affect your condition.
Type 2 Diabetes generally happens when your diet is poor and you do not get enough exercise. It is common to see this type of diabetes in people over the age of 35 but there are cases where children have type 2 diabetes. This diabetes is also considered to be due to genetics for some of its carriers.
Gestational Diabetes is sometimes seen in women when they are pregnant. It usually starts in the 2nd trimester but usually disappears once the baby is born. The doctor will watch the woman closely at the onset of gestational diabetes as the woman is at a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes permanently. While the cause of this diabetes is not known, some doctor’s think it can be relates to the placenta blocking the body’s natural production of insulin.
There are not many noticeable symptoms in the early stages of diabetes but some of the most common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, Fatigue, excessive weight loss, nausea, blurred vision, tingling sensation in the limbs and ulcers that cannot heal.

Diabetes left untreated can cause serious health problems including heart disease, stroke and death. Your doctor will help determine the best course of treatment for you and your particular case of diabetes.
